In 2011, I had one solitary mission:
Put something on a t-shirt, see if it sells.
A few years, a few designs and a name change later, Forest City Designs officially opened.
Forest City Design is the very definition of ‘small business’. I am the soul owner, designer, bookkeeper and advertising executive of a company that was started on a whim, but grew into a legitimate platform.
Every day is a learning process. When I first started out, I had no idea how to navigate an Illustrator page, let alone know how to draw. Today, I can use the Pen Tool with the best of them, and my Wacom tablet is a good friend of mine. Does it mean I know how to draw now? Well, the jury is still out on that. I strive to make good art, and sell better ideas.
I chose to name my micro-operation ‘Forest City Design’ after my beloved Portland, Maine. A long time ago, Portland was a haven for artists of every stripe. Today, the community has blossomed into a key destination for actors, musicians, artists and chefs. I spent most of my years growing up there, and it has always been a source of inspiration.
Currently, I’m utilizing Redbubble, Teespring, and Spreadshirt for my store fronts. Not the most profitable models, but every little bit adds up. My goal is to make Forest City Design Company independent one day. Some day.
Not much of a history, but we’re still young and growing. Subscribe and stay up to date on my latest endeavors and sales.
